Payment Service Authorisation Options
Eminent offers global support for payment service authorisations, including SPI, API, and SEMI licences in the UK, regulated by the FCA. The SPI is ideal for smaller firms with a €3M monthly cap and lighter compliance requirements. The API is suited for larger firms with no transaction cap and higher capital and safeguarding standards. SEMI licences allow limited e-money issuance for start-ups under reduced regulatory oversight. In Europe, firms can apply for PI or EMI licences under PSD2, enabling EU-wide services, while UK-based firms must now hold local EU licences post-Brexit. In the USA, a state-by-state Money Transmitter Licence (MTL) and FinCEN registration are required, making the process complex and resource-intensive. In Australia, businesses must register with AUSTRAC as Remittance Service Providers and meet AML/CTF obligations. For businesses dealing in cryptocurrency, Eminent supports firms with FCA registration under the Money Laundering Regulations (MLRs) in the UK. This registration is mandatory for crypto exchanges, wallet providers, and related services, requiring strict AML/KYC compliance and “fit and proper” checks, though it does not permit full financial institution status or EU passporting rights. |
